Why SVG files carry extra weight

An SVG is plain text, and design tools fill it with things a browser never draws: empty elements, unused namespaces, default values and overly precise paths. We remove them and merge paths. The drawing looks the same; images embedded inside the SVG aren't recompressed.

Why people use TinyPNG

Looks the same, weighs less

We remove detail you can't see, such as unused colors and hidden metadata. The image looks the same and the file is much smaller.

Free, no sign-up

Web Free takes 20 images per session without an account. Web Pro and Web Ultra have no image limit.

Trusted since 2012

Designers, developers, marketers and many more: millions of people use TinyPNG. Together they've shrunk over 9 billion images.

“While there are other ways to achieve a 70% reduction in image size, TinyPNG is the easiest and fastest method I’ve found. Plus, it doesn’t alter the image file names, which is great for maintaining SEO integrity.”

Questions about compressing SVG

Can I convert an SVG to another format here?

No. SVG files are compressed and stay SVG. Export a PNG from your design tool if you need one.

Can I compress SVG and PNG files at the same time?

Yes. Every file comes back in its own format.

Is SVG a vector format?

Yes. An SVG describes shapes, lines and curves as text instead of pixels, so it can be resized to any size and stays sharp.

What does SVG stand for?

Scalable Vector Graphics, a text-based (XML) format for vector images. The W3C developed it as an open standard, and SVG 1.0 became a W3C Recommendation on 4 September 2001. Because an SVG is plain text, you can open it in a text editor, style it with CSS and animate it, and every modern browser shows it without a plugin.

What is an SVG file used for?

Icons, logos and illustrations that must look sharp on every screen. Because it is text, the file is often only a few KB. Photos are better as JPG or WebP.

What is the difference between SVG and PNG?

SVG stores shapes and scales without blur; PNG stores pixels and suits screenshots and detailed images. Both support transparency.

How do I reduce the size of an SVG file?

Compress it here. We strip what design tools leave behind, such as editor comments and unused definitions, remove empty elements, shorten IDs and class names, and merge paths.

Can I send an SVG in an email?

Not reliably: Gmail, on the web and in its apps, shows an SVG but turns it into a PNG, while Apple Mail, Outlook and Yahoo Mail show it as SVG (caniemail.com). Send a PNG or JPG instead.

Does SVG support transparency?

Yes. Areas you don't fill stay see-through, so a logo sits cleanly on any background.

Is it safe to upload an SVG?

An SVG is text and can contain scripts, which is why WordPress blocks SVG uploads by default. We remove scripts while compressing, but that is not a security check: embedded images and external links stay in the file. Only use SVGs from sources you trust.

Will compressing break my SVG?

It looks the same, but we shorten IDs and class names and remove unused ones. If your own CSS or JavaScript targets them, use the original file for that. Embedded images inside the SVG aren't compressed.

Is it free?

Yes. Web Free compresses 20 images per session, up to 5 MB each, without an account. Web Pro and Web Ultra raise the limits.

Are my images private?

Yes. We store your images encrypted, download links expire after 8 hours, and we delete your images from our servers within 48 hours.
