Turn JPEG XL images into AVIF files. We compress every file as we convert it.
3 free JPEG XL to AVIF conversions per session, max 5 MB eachOr click to browse. 3 free JPEG XL to AVIF conversions per session, max 5 MB each
Chrome, Firefox and Safari open JPEG XL, but Edge, Opera and Samsung Internet don't yet. AVIF opens in all of them. Transparent areas stay transparent.

We remove detail you can't see, such as unused colors and hidden metadata. The image looks the same and the file is much smaller.
Web Free converts 3 images per session without an account. Web Ultra has no conversion limit.
Designers, developers, marketers and many more: millions of people use TinyPNG. Together they've shrunk over 9 billion images.
Add JPEG XL images up to 5 MB each.
Each image comes back as AVIF, usually within seconds.
Save them one by one, or all at once as a ZIP.
JPEG XL suits photo archives, but support is new. AVIF opens in far more browsers, so use it for the web and keep the JPEG XL where it is supported. Shopify, Figma and many email clients don't take AVIF either; use JPG for those.

Yes. Transparent areas stay transparent in the AVIF.
The JPEG XL was already compressed and AVIF compresses again, so a little detail goes. At normal viewing sizes it is hard to spot.
Yes. Use the swap button, or go to AVIF to JXL. Detail removed by compression doesn't come back.
AVIF also opens in Edge, which doesn't show JPEG XL yet, and is often smaller for flat graphics.
Windows 11 24H2 opens it after you install the free JPEG XL Image Extension from the Microsoft Store; Windows 10 needs a third-party plugin.
Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (from 16.4), about 96% of browsers in use. Outside the browser, Windows Photos and Office need the free AV1 Video Extension, and Gmail turns AVIF into JPEG.
Add your JPEG XL images above, choose AVIF and download the result. It works in your browser on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, with nothing to install.
A .jxl file is an image in JPEG XL, a newer format designed to replace JPEG. It does lossy and lossless compression, keeps transparency, and can repack a JPEG without losing anything.
